Why I Love It

The place that reminds me to slow down

There are places you visit and places that stay with you. Yorkshire Lavender is the second kind. It’s a small farm on the edge of the Howardian Hills — nothing grand, nothing flashy. Just rows and rows of lavender stretching out against the Yorkshire sky.

We first went there on a Tuesday afternoon in July. Neil wasn’t sure about it (“it’s just a field, isn’t it?”) but the moment we walked through the gate he went quiet. The good kind of quiet.

The smell, the views, the peace. It’s one of those places where you feel Jehovah’s creation up close.

I love it because it’s the kind of place that makes you forget you have a phone. You just walk. Slowly. You smell things. You notice the bees. You remember that Jehovah made all of this — not for a reason, but for joy.

We try to go at least twice a summer now. It’s become one of our “reset” places — the kind of place you go when the week has been too long and you need to remember what matters.
